Preschoolers and kindergarteners will practice their number sense skills and develop a better understanding of the relationship between numbers and quantities:

1. Demonstrate their knowledge of numbers 0-10, with this number recognition game. 
2. Determine how many objects are and then assign the correct numeral. Subject: number sense, number 0-10, counting number 1-10, identifying numbers 1-10Math Core standards: CCSS.Math.Content.K.CC.B.5 :"Count to answer “how many?” questions about as many as 20 things arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle, or as many as 10 things in a scattered configuration; given a number from 1-20, count out that many objects."

Counting in the kitchen: Timed number recognition game in which children practice their number sense skills, and sharpen their subitizing skills as they practice counting numbers 1–10. in the game Floyd expertly stacks up orders of burgers and tacos while the child has to determine which plate has the number of items that match the number at the top of the screen. This math game provides a fun and engaging way to help preschoolers and kindergarteners connect numbers and corresponding quantities. Many times children think a lot about "helping" and "food" Its an amazing game that will engage children. If they get it wrong they will simple have another chance to try. Its important not to discourage kids and allow them to understand that even mathematicians do not get it right the first time. They should be taught to try and try until they get super subitizing correct!

1.     Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them

 Students must understand the problem, figure out how to solve it, and then work until it is finished even though its timed they can always try again and get more plates than the previous time. Students are encouraged to work with their current knowledge and apply the skills they already have while evaluating themselves in problem-solving. While students work through more difficult problems depending on the level they are in, they focus on the process of solving the problem instead of just getting to the correct answer.

2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively

When trying to problem solve, it is important that students understand there are multiple ways to break apart the problem in order to find the solution, they can use their fingers, use manipulatives, or subitize!. Using symbols, pictures or other representations to describe the different sections of the problem allowing students to use context skills rather than standard algorithms.

4. Model with mathematics

Math doesn’t end in the classroom the students can use this "kitchen" game and learn to model with mathematics. The students will use math skills to problem-solve real world situations and to help understand life connections. Using real world situations to show how math can be used in many different aspects of life helps math to be relevant outside of math class.

6. Attend to precision

Since this game is times students must calculate accurately and efficiently, expressing numerical answers with a degree of precision appropriate for the problem context.

I truly love and enjoy to teach preschoolers and kindergartens! Subitizing is the root of the beginning of a childs growth as a mathematician. I would love to nourish each and every child in my classroom. Math is truly taught to children in a playful manner. It is through play that children truly learn. Children must find the fun in learning to better flourish into magnificent mathematicians which begins at the roots.
